LADY MARGARET HALL
Lady Margaret Hall - Deneke Building, Lobby Concept View
Deneke Building Interior Enhancements
Lynrace Studio were invited to reimagine the lobby and connecting corridors of the historic Deneke Building at Lady Margaret Hall, creating a warmer, more welcoming and characterful arrival experience. Drawing on the college’s architectural heritage and the refined, pared-back sensibility of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the design enhances the sense of permanence, calm, and upward focus central to the building’s identity. Key interventions include reconfiguring the entrance sequence, introducing a new welcome area, refining the spatial hierarchy, and integrating curated artwork and archival material to celebrate LMH’s pioneering history, as outlined in the project brief and concept response. Material and lighting upgrades soften the institutional feel of the space, bringing together natural tones, timber detailing, textured finishes, and modern lighting controls to create a soulful transition from day to evening. The result is a more cohesive, functional, and elegantly contemporary interior that respects the listed setting while enhancing connection, comfort, and college identity.
