CASTLE MILL HOUSE

Rooftop Extension, Jericho

Castle Mill House is a rooftop extension and refurbishment project in the Jericho Conservation Area, set alongside Juxon Street and the Oxford Canal. The scheme retains the existing 34 studio and one-bedroom flats while adding 8 new homes, taking the building to 42 dwellings, alongside upgraded cycle storage and refuse/recycling provision. Following Local Planning Authority feedback and a protracted planning application process culminating in an Appeal Hearing, the developed design simplifies the architectural approach of a previous consented design proposal introducing a stepped massing to improve the transition of scale, and refining materials and fenestration for a calmer canal-side and street presence. Landscape proposals retain key mature trees along the canal and strengthen biodiversity and resident amenity, with improved entrances and a more coherent courtyard setting. Construction is planned to commence in 2027.
